The cardinal rule of band-dom is “Don’t be boring.” The way I see it, when a fan buys a ticket to an artist’s show, the artist is promising something worth seeing.

Io Echo and CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy) come through on this promise in spades. Sure, they both make catchy music but they’re worth seeing just for how weird they are.

They’re an odd pairing honestly because they’re so alike in their weirdness. Io Echo was fronted by a blond with waist length hair that she kept flinging out of her face. She was rocking some shiny shiny lace up boots and a cape over a graphic tee. In town to promote their latest album, Planta, CSS was fronted by a brunette with waist length hair that she kept flinging out of her face. She was rocking lace up boots and a flowy polka dotted black dress. Io Echo had an ongoing light show in time to their music. CSS passed out glow sticks to patrons. It would have been repetitive but CSS, who hail from Brazil, added a tropical twist to it that made it fresh all over again ten minutes after Io Echo wrapped up. Both sets gave off an old school/crazy hair/glam rock/ Spinal Tap vibe, but only in the best way possible.
