Song of the Day: Neko Case – Man

This song is like the best of Middlesex, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Ernie’s “I don’t want to live on the moon” song all wrapped in one. In this single from her new album The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You, Neko Case pairs with M. Ward to deliver three minutes and thirty two seconds of pure, gender defying joy, packed with gender bending quotable moments:

I’m not your identity crisis
I’m not the runt of the litter
I’m a man, you’ll have to deal with me

and my favorite:
I am the man in the f*cking moon

Is it a piece of theater? Is it a rallying cry? Is it a political statement? I don’t know but I love it.
