Song of the Day: Black Onassis – Brain (formerly of Kasabian)

When Kasabian first rolled around these parts of town around ten years ago, they were one of those bands that uniquely fused electronic music with rock. Tracks like Club Foot and Reason is Treason seemed equally at home at a dance club or a rock spot. The man mostly responsible for this sound was Chris Karloff. For creative reasons, Karloff left the band while the group was recording their second record, but not before leaving us with the track Empire, which is probably the best song off that one. Kasabian would then slowly transform itself into a more anthem based rock band (who are still quite good) and no one had really heard of Karloff since.

Until now.

DUN DUN DUN.

It’s been a few years, but Karloff is finally back on the scene. This time, it’s with his friend Nick Forde. The duo are called Black Onassis and they have recently released a single called Brain. The vocals on this track are from Ben Gautrey, formerly of another band I like – The Cooper Temple Clause. As you would expect, it sounds a bit like early era Kasabian – pulsating drums, reverb and just that driving, dancing force. Check it out.
