SXSW Review: Peelander-Z, March 16, Threadgill’s

To anyone who’s ever seen Peelander-Z perform, it’s pretty much pointless to describe it; you know what you’re in for.  For those who haven’t yet seen them, suffice it to say that it’s a hell of a lot of fun.  Fun that includes dance parties (“Mad Tiger!”), baseball, limbo contests, squid costumes, human bowling, wacky headgear, a special appearance by Peelander Silver on saxophone and several other assorted hijincks.  All of this adds up to make pretty much one of the most high energy, theatrical, and downright goofy shows you can see.  And fun, did I mention the fun?

Lead singer Peelander Yellow is not just the frontman, but a ringmaster of sorts for the mad circus that is a Peelander-Z show.  While this was my first time seeing them, I knew somewhat what to expect, but I didn’t quite expect to be grinning from ear to ear throughout their set.

Here’s a video someone took of part of their set.  Good times.
